The Interfaith Children’s Movement brought its message of creating a brighter future for children to the state capitol on Tuesday, Feb. 11. ICM offers resources for the proper care of a child’s well-being by providing emotional and spiritual support, protecting exploited children and care for the caregivers by giving them a sense of community.

Atlanta-based ICM focuses on youth environmental justice, juvenile justice, immigrant and refugee support. The overall goal is to develop a better future for children.

ICM’s secondary mission is bringing high school students together of all faiths and teaching them how to live in a peaceful and respectful world.

Rozina Gilani is an administrative supervisor with ICM. She assists with youth activities. Gilani said her focus is on social justice for minors.

“The children’s rights and well-being is where social justice begins, we need to progress to build a supportive network for children in the future,” Gilani said.

More than 100 ICM high school students toured the capitol and learned about the legislative process. The students handed out gift bags to the Representatives on the floor of the House.

Paris Bankston, a member of the Black Male Initiative and one of ICM’s sponsors, said his focus is on providing more economic opportunities for black men.

“We bring the children here today to show them how the legislature works so they will have the tools to create a better future because children are our future,” Bankston said.
