Gov. Brian Kemp appointed Barbara Rivera Holmes as the new Georgia Labor Commissioner following the passing of Bruce Thompson in 2024. Holmes, a native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and an Albany resident, is the first Latina to hold this position in the state. She brings a background in business writing and leadership, having served as President and CEO of the Albany Chamber of Commerce. Holmes will assume her role on April 4th, pledging a focus on workforce development for Georgia.
